Acid Stain Project Checklist

Planning your next acid stain project

Concrete Acid Stain: 200 sq. ft. per gallon applying two coats (more acid stain will be needed if additional color accents are desired) Older concrete may require more stain and longer activation times to achieve a darker coloration.

Concrete Sealer: 200 sq. ft. per gallon (except for Krystal Kote and DCI Lithium/Hardener Sealer)
Decide what level of gloss – satin finish, semi-gloss or high gloss – and variety of sealer (solvent or water-based) is appropriate for your project. Krystal Kote has a coverage rate of 350 sq. ft./gallon and DCI Lithium Hardener/Sealer has a coverage rate of 400 sq. ft/gallon. Coverage rates will vary depending on the conditions of the concrete.

Floor Wax: 500 sq. ft. per gallon (indoor projects only). Select Commercial Wax for business and high traffic areas. Residential Wax is intended for home applications. Lithium Hardener/Sealer applications do not require wax.

Applicators: An all-plastic Pump-up Sprayer is used to apply acid stain. Acid stain resistant shoes will allow you to walk on the floor while the stain is still wet and active. Sealer can be applied with the Padco Applicator of your choice or in the case of the Sprayable Satin Finish Sealer, a pump-up fence and deck sprayer. Floor wax can be applied with a Padco Floor Coater, Trim Pad or a sponge mop.

*For machine-troweled or “burned in” surfaces, use DCI Hard-Troweled Floor Prep to prepare the floor for acid staining. Contact our decorative concrete specialists for more information about your specific project.
