Mountain Smoke Concrete Transforms Floor with DCI Concrete Dye
Story:
Jim with Mountain Smoke Concrete in TN was asked to design a black and white floor for a client. After some discussion on the phone with our Direct Colors decorative concrete experts, Jim decided to try the DCI Concrete Dye because it would create the look his customer had specified.
For this slab, he applied Sprayable Satin Finish Sealer on the concrete before spraying on the acetone-based dye. The concrete sealer helps insure the best possible performance on a porous surface.
Jim said the application went great and he continues to receive many job referrals from his customer.
“Easy application. DCI Concrete Dye creates unique looking floors with coloration that can’t be replicated with acid stain.” – Jim with Mountain Smoke Concrete.
Thanks for sharing, Jim!

I have stained and sealed concrete floors in my home. I am not at all happy with the color and would like to have them much darker. What should I do?
Ms. Johnson.
I’d love to see a picture of the floors just to get a sense of what we’re dealing with. You could apply accents using our DCI Concrete Dye over a sealed surface but before making a recommendation, I’d prefer to see the project first. Please email us at info@directcolors.com and we’ll be happy to help you.
Thank you.

Thanks for your email, Kevin. I would check out two things to learn about our products. First, the new How-to Acid Stain and Apply Concrete Overlay Video. The video is a complete overlay project including acid staining and sealing. Second, read over our DCI Concrete Overlay brochure. Many of the details on the product can be found there. Feel free to contact us with any questions, 877-255-2656.

Thanks for your email. I recommend you visit the color charts page of our website for the DCI Concrete Dye colors and review the DCI Concrete Dye webpage for more information on the product. Everything can be purchased online but please feel free to contact us at 877-255-2656 if you have any questions. Good luck with your project.
We have stone benchs with stone tops on them. I love the look of the black overlay. Could this be applied to stone, or only concrete?
The project you’re referring to includes DCI Concrete Dye which is an acetone-based acrylic dye in black and white. You could apply it successfully to some stones, particularly those without a terribly smooth surface, but you would have to apply a concrete sealer to protect the final finish. Thanks for your comment and don’t hesitate to phone or email us with any future questions.

Will your product even out a concrete that has 1′ raised sections in places? The area has been pushed up in areas by tree roots.
I’m afraid not. DCI Concrete Overlay should be applied to a relatively smooth and level surface for best results. In addition, if the roots continue to push up through the concrete, the overlay would also crack. Thank you for your interest in our products.
