Day 7: DIY Family Room Makeover with Decorative Concrete
A Complete DIY Family Room Makeover with Direct Colors
Affordable One of a Kind Acid Stained Countertops, Mantels and Floors
The Keck Family of Texas has done a little more than just a countertop in their family room makeover! Decorative concrete isn’t limited to only countertops and floors. The Kecks have constructed a bar top, mantelpiece, stairs and flooring all colored with Direct Colors Acid Stain and Deco Gel Acid Stain. The family was going for a rustic, country theme while creating an easy-to-clean and low dust environment.
The best thing about acid stain is its ability to infuse concrete with rich and deep color tones. Depending on the color and application techniques used, the results can mimic everything from polished marble to natural stone or even stained wood. Something else to remember about concrete stain is that no two projects will look alike! Application, color selection, concrete surface conditions and environmental factors all play important roles in the final outcome.
The mantelpiece was colored using DCI Coffee Brown Acid Stain at various dilution rates and sealed using our AC1315 High Gloss Solvent Based Sealer. The stairs were stained with the Coffee Brown Deco Gel to avoid drips and runs on the vertical surfaces. All the decorative concrete finishes – flooring and countertops – are simple to clean and maintain.
Cleaning for concrete floors and countertops is quick and straight forward. Avoid using harsh cleansers including dish washing soap with Ammonia. Warm water does a great job most of the time but if soap is required, stick with something very mild like an non-citrus based organic dish washing soap. Be sure to rinse well clear water and allow to dry before waxing. For more details on care and maintenance for acid stained floors, visit the Common DIY Projects section of our blog.
