Stenciling with Overlay in an Exterior Application
Create a new look for existing outdoor concrete DCI One-Step Overlay. Our homeowner wanted a change and selected a stenciled overlay with contrasting colors. The surface was sandblasted to remove existing sealer and prepare the concrete for an overlay. The homeowner chose two concrete pigment colors – Burnished Brown (844-2lb.) and Deep Bronze (680-3lb.). The 1/8th inch primer coat of Smooth Gray Overlay was sprayed down first from a hopper gun and allowed to dry. The running cobblestone border stencil was applied along the driveway first and the darker color sprayed using a spray shield onto the concrete. The cobblestone stencil was applied to the porches, driveway, walkways, and patios. The lighter color was then sprayed down and the stencil removed to produce the contrasting gray color. The entire area was sealed with two coats of Sprayable Satin Finish Solvent Based Concrete Sealer.
Stenciling while generally carried out by a concrete professional is an excellent alternative to stamping to spruce up an existing concrete slab. Consider acid staining with stencils or hand-troweled overlay finish as well.
