DCI Glossy 550 Water-Based Polyurethane is a low VOC, aliphatic urethane coating that offers excellent impact and abrasion resistance providing a durable, long lasting finish. This no-wax sealer can be applied indoors or out to smooth concrete surfaces. Rough or broom-finished concrete are not good candidates for this sealer. Careful review of the product instructions prior to application is a must.
Coverage: When properly applied to a primed, smooth concrete surface, the 1 gallon kit will cover between 350-500 sq. ft. Coverage will vary with surface conditions and concrete porosity. Use only water-based acrylic or epoxy sealers to prime the floor. For best results, first apply a single thin coat of DCI Water Based Sealer for smooth surfaces or two thin coats for more porous surfaces. Allow the primer to cure 12 hours between primer coats and a minimum of 24 hours before proceeding with the polyurethane sealer.
550 Water- Based Polyurethane Mini Kits are available for smaller projects and concrete countertops.
Mixing Instructions: As a two-part system, Part A must be thoroughly mixed into Part B in order for the material to properly set up for application. Pour Part A into Part B and begin to mix with a wooden stir stick. Mix completely; fold the material over onto itself and carefully scrape the sides of the can to assure nothing is left unmixed. Whenever possible mix contents with a low speed electric drill with a paint mixing paddle attachment. The contents should thicken and become whiter as you stir. Stir for 2-4 minutes until totally combined. NEVER mix the product at a high-speed. Once mixed, the pot life for the sealer is approximately 1 hour.
Application Instructions: When applying in optimal temperature and humidity conditions of 75 F and 50% humidity, 550 Polyurethane pot life is approximately 1 hour before the material begins to harden. Do not apply to surfaces below 65F or above 90F or if humidity levels are above 80%. Lower temperatures will maximize pot life and higher temperatures will reduce it. The sealer itself must be above 60F before installing.
Floor Application: Use a piece of packing or duct tape to “de-fuzz” the roller prior to application. After the sealer has been thoroughly mixed, pour the polyurethane in a thick ribbon directly onto the floor and begin pulling the sealer across the floor using a 5 mil squeegee allowing the tool to set the appropriate depth. Wet a 3/8” nap roller with sealer and gently back roll the polyurethane into place on the floor. Avoid overworking the sealer as it can lead to air entrapment which can cause foaming on the surface. Working time for the 550 Water Based Polyurethane Sealer is once on the floor is only 5-8 minutes so having more than one person mixing, pouring and applying is essential for larger projects. If a second coat should be deemed necessary, apply within 24 hours of the first coat or wet-sand the surface with a 120-grit pad prior application to ensure good adhesion. If applying with an HVLP sprayer, spray on in even coats until the surface is saturated and allow to dry.

Countertop Application: 550 Water-Based Polyurethane Sealer can be applied either indoor or outdoor countertops with a de-fuzzed 3/8″ nap roller or a HVLP Gravity Feed Spray Gun with compressed air for finer finish. For complete application instructions, read our How to Apply Polyurethane Countertop Sealer Guide.
550 Water Based Polyurethane Concrete Sealer can be cleaned prior to cure with isopropyl alcohol and can only be removed from fully-cured concrete surfaces using Soy Gel Paint and Sealer Stripper or by mechanical means, such as grinding or sanding. Leftover product, brushes, paint trays, or roller covers should be responsibly discarded after use.
