Acid stained garage floors are a popular projects for homeowners, especially if the space is used for a shop or hobby room as well. Surface preparation is critical for a garage floor project. The concrete must be free of debris, oil or any other contaminants before beginning. Oil can also prevent a complete acid stain reaction and proper sealer adherence. When in doubt, sand the floor with an 80-grit pad. This 800 sq. ft. project was acid stained using Cola and diluted Coffee Brown. Sealer choice is important to reduce slip hazards when wet. A sprayable high gloss solvent-based sealer, AC 1315, was used for this project. Solvent-based sealers are the best choice for garage application because they are easy to reapply in the event of spill or hot-tire damage.
