Scope of Project — Acid Stained Overlay
Acid Stain floors are one of our most popular DIY projects. The homeowner chose this flooring option to reduce allergens in the house. The carpet was removed and the concrete was cleaned of carpet glue and paint before applying the overlay. Direct Colors recommends stripping the heavy paint and glue from the surface with Bean-E-Doo and Soy Gel Paint Stripper. If the glue and paint are widespread, sand the floors with an 80-grit pad for best results. The overlay was applied using a pool trowel with a medium trowel texture in four rooms. Shifting Sand diluted 1 to 1 with water was applied with a sprayer. After clean up, the concrete was sealed with a water-based sealer and Sorrel Concrete Dye accents were applied to the sealed surface to provide additional color depth. The floor was sealed again and a top coat of water-based polyurethane was added for extra durability.
