We’re hearing more and more about pole barns from our customers. We’ve been helping homeowners turn garages into shops and living space but the trend is increasingly towards building metal pole barns because it’s a cost effective and highly customizable option for both recreational, residential and professional uses. Let’s find out more!
“A pole barn is a building that uses post-frame construction. Poles are either driven into the ground or secured above ground. The poles support the roof, as opposed to traditional stud-wall homes where the walls support the roof. This means that you don’t have any load-bearing walls, which creates ease of open concept design.”
Wideopencountry.com writes “If you want to live where the green grass grows, but aren’t sure how you’ll afford it, it might be time to consider a pole barn home. Pole barns also work great as garage guest houses to supplement your existing home. They’ve also been turned into schools, churches, gymnasiums, hockey rinks, you name it.”
Decorative concrete brings outdoor living spaces to life without breaking the bank. The Palmer family of Kalispell, MT built a pole barn and used our Liquid Colored Antique Concrete Stain to add rich color to their patio space.
“We used the Driftwood and Chocolate Liquid Colored Antique Concrete Stain. Worked great! Ordered more for another area. Great product. Thanks!”

Liquid Colored Antique can be used on most any outdoor concrete even previously stained or sealed slabs. Surface preparation is relatively simple. For most outdoor surfaces, careful power washing or scrubbing with a light organic degreaser and water solution will do the trick. Once dry, spray saturating coats of concrete stain and after allowing 8 hours of dry time, seal with Sprayable Satin Finish Sealer. Easy as 1, 2, 3!
Direct Colors Liquid Colored Antique Concrete Stain Sealed with Sprayable Satin Finish Sealer
If you are just getting started and no concrete has been poured, then consider adding concrete pigment to your mix. Integrally colored concrete means you have colored floors without all the fuss of doing it yourself. We have hundreds of color options to choose from and the only DIY step is the sealing and waxing (if a residence). You can’t beat that!
Acid stained floors are by far the best option for existing pole barns because the product offers a permanent alternation of the concrete color and the color will be largely unaffected even by heavy use. Pole barns have many possible functions from actual barns to homes. Select your sealer and stain based on the pole barn’s intended use.
For example, if you’re planning to park heavy recreational vehicles or stable animals, you may prefer our Penetrating Lithium Sealer Hardener for the project. This sealer is a one-time only application and because all the sealer is deposited in the pores of the concrete, it is a very durable and hard wearing product as well. Keep in mind if you select this sealer, it is a true matte finish and will significantly enhance an integral colored or acid stained floor.
If you’d prefer something a little glossier but are still using the space for something other than living quarters, then consider our Sprayable Satin Finish Sealer. It’s easy to apply, clean and has a glossy finish but not so much so that you’ll slip and fall getting out of your car on a wet floor! It’s an excellent option for pole barn and garage floors.
Pole Barns exclusively used for residential space have all the sealer options available to them. Check out all the High and Satin Gloss Sealers to select which product is best for you. Don’t forget that interior floors must be waxed to protect the floors from wear and tear so you’ll never need to seal again!
